Heidi Altmann elected to the SC

Dr. Heidi Altmann, molecular biologist and scientific director of the Dresden Integrated Liquid Biobank of BioBank Dresden, was elected to the Steering Committee of German Biobank Node (GBN) and German Biobank Alliance (GBA) in October. Congratulations!

Altmann succeeds Prof. Dr. Jens Habermann, who took office as Director General of the European Biobank Infrastructure BBMRI-ERIC at the beginning of September and therefore resigned from the Steering Committee (SC). The SC supports GBN in the implementation of the work programme and ensures that the biobanks of the GBA cooperate effectively. The SC decides on all GBA matters and shapes the strategic direction. Until 2019 the heads of all partner biobanks of the GBA and the IT development centres, as well as Prof. Dr. Michael Hummel for GBN were part of the SC. Due to the strong growth in the number of biobank partners since 2019, the SC decided at the end of the year to reduce the size of the committee and elect a new one at the beginning of 2020. The next complete re-election of the SC is planned for 2022.

Heidi Altmann studied pharmaceutical biotechnology in Jena and subsequently completed her PhD in Kiel at the Institute for Molecular Biology. Since 2013 she has been a research associate at the Medical Clinic I, Haematology/Oncology of the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden. In 2017 she additionally took over the scientific management of the Dresden Integrated Liquid Biobank of the BioBank Dresden (BBD). BBD was admitted to the GBA in 2019.
