In its anniversary year 2024, the German Biobank Node (GBN) is releasing a series of videos in which representatives of biobanks and other supporters and partners express their congratulations, look back on the activities and successes of the past ten years and formulate their wishes for the future.
The GBN quality programme
In the sixth video "Focus on accreditation – quality management in biobanks", Dr. Heidi Altmann, PD Dr. Dr. Michael Kiehntopf and Prof. Dr. Thomas Illig talk about the GBN quality programme, in particular the "friendly audits" and the proficiency tests. "Basically, we want to ensure that all samples collected in the network are of consistent and standardised quality," says Michael Kiehntopf right at the beginning. And Heidi Altmann comments on the friendly audits with which GBN prepares the biobanks of the German Biobank Alliance (GBA) for accreditation according to DIN EN ISO 20387: "The auditors check our quality management in a very supportive way." "We couldn't have done it without GBN," summarises Thomas Illig, Head of the recently accredited Hannover Unified Biobank (HUB).
