In June 2024, the German Biobank Node (GBN) and patient organisations published a joint position paper, which is now available in English.
The aim of the initiative is to strengthen the use of academic biobanks and to increase the participation of patients in biomedical research. These measures are intended to increase the effectiveness and sustainability of research.
Four patient organisations wrote the position paper together with GBN and representatives of the German Biobank Alliance (GBA), and it is supported by many other institutions and associations, including the Medical Faculty Association (MFT) and the Association of Medical Ethics Committees in Germany (AKEK e. V.). The publication of the paper in June was widely covered by the media, including an article in the Tagesspiegel Background Health & E-Health.
