Since 1st September accreditations according to ISO 20387 “Biotechnology – Biobanking – General requirements for biobanking” are possible in Germany – this was announced by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS). Previously, the DAkkS had only offered partial accreditations. The accreditation programme was developed by DAkkS in close cooperation with the German Biobank Node (GBN).
“Friendly audits” in preparation for accreditation
The “friendly audits” launched in 2018 are a measure of the German Biobank Alliance (GBA) to assess whether the biobanks work “GBA-compliant” – i.e. whether they observe the GBN manual for quality management. This has been developed according to numerous standards: ISO 20387 as well as DIN EN ISO 17025, 17020, 15189 and ISO 9001:2015. The “friendly audits” also serve to prepare the GBA biobanks for accreditation according to ISO 20387.
