Quality management

The quality of biospecimens is crucial for the success of biomedical research.

The comprehensive quality programme of the German Biobank Node (GBN) supports biobanks on their way to an accreditation according to the biobanking standard DIN EN ISO 20387.

Training

GBN offers events on QM topics both for biobanks of the German Biobank Alliance (GBA) and for external participants. These include webinars and workshops, "quality circles" and auditor mentoring.

Webinars and workshops

Experts share their knowledge on specific topics in webinars and workshops. The GBN QM team organises and moderates these events. GBN announces topics and registration information in its event calendar.

Here are two examples of past webinars:

Quality circle

The "quality circles" series focuses on the exchange of experience among the GBA partners; the partners discuss various topics there, such as the validation of ambient conditions for nitrogen tanks using best practice examples. Recommendations for action are developed in the quality circles and then made available.

Auditor mentoring and training

Since 2018, GBN, in cooperation with TÜV Süd, has twice trained approximately 15 experts from the GBA community as auditors. They have been active as auditors within the GBA since then. The training courses comprised a three-day standard-specific part and a two-day subject-specific part with biobanking experts. The training was completed with an online test and a "witness audit", in which the technical and standards-specific competence was tested. In addition to members of the GBA community, representatives of the German Centers for Health Research and the National Cohort participated in each training session.
