Director General of BBMRI-ERIC

The pan-European Biobanking and BioMolecular Resources Research Infrastructure (BBMRI) is a distributed biomedical infrastructure, which operates under the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) legal framework. With 19 countries and one intergovernmental organisation as members and observers, BBMRI-ERIC is today one of the largest infrastructures for health in the EU ( Its aim is to improve quality and facilitate the accessibility and interoperability of the existing comprehensive collections of biological samples and biomolecular resources that are participating in the national networks of its members and observers.
BBMRI-ERIC has its Central Executive Management Office in Graz, Austria, with a current staff of 20 head counts and is now seeking to recruit a Director General of BBMRI-ERIC.

The responsibilities of the Director General are in particular:

  • To define the strategic development of BBMRI-ERIC taking into consideration stakeholders’ needs. This shall be done in close coordination with the Assembly of Members and the National/Organisational Nodes,
  • to develop and implement a work programme and budget,
  • to lead the team in Graz,
  • to build an effective and collaborative working environment with the National/Organisational Nodes and biobanking communities,
  • to set up strong relationships with and to build bridges between a broad range of stakeholders including patient organisations, user communities, industry, other ESFRI research infrastructures, regulatory and funding bodies as well as policy makers on national and EU levels to forward BBMRI-ERIC’s goals,
  • to attract new Members and/or Observers,
  • to ensure that BBMRI-ERIC activities comply with relevant regulations, ethical principles and societal values,
  • to lead fundraising efforts for BBMRI-ERIC and its partners, on national and European levels,
  • to coordinate public relations and dissemination activities,
  • to monitor, measure and report on BBMRI-ERIC’s progress to the Assembly of Members as well as the European Commission.

ELSI Services Officer - BBMRI-ERIC

Job Title: ELSI Services Officer
Job Location: Austria
Duration: 2 years with the possibility of extension – full-time – 40h/week

Key Responsibilities
We seek an ELSI Services Officer to complement our ELSI (ethical, legal and societal issues) team in order to improve our services for the biobanking community. The expert will dedicate part of his/her time to ELSI Services, especially the ELSI Helpdesk and Knowledge Base. He/she will contribute to working groups and/or task forces to develop practical services and tools or guidance to biobankers and occasionally to the research infrastructures in the biomedical sciences (BMS RIs). Moreover, he/she will contribute to activities and tasks that may be both part of BBMRI-ERIC’s core services as well as selected EU-funded projects (e.g. CY-Biobank).     

The ELSI Services Officer is expected to have a background in ethical, legal and societal aspects in the context of biomedical research, especially biobanks. Previous experience in collaborative, international research projects, private and/or public research organizations is an advantage. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with colleagues and stakeholders in an international environment as well as to work in a team are essential. As English is the working language of BBMRI‐ERIC, applicants must be fluent in English. The jobholder will be asked from time to time to work outside normal working hours and occasionally to undertake national and/or international travel. We are looking for highly motivated people with at least a Master’s degree or higher, in law, social sciences or bioethics.

Im Institut für Pathologie - zentralisierte Biomaterialbank der RWTH Aachen (RWTH cBMB) ist zum frühestmöglichen Zeitpunkt eine Stelle alsInformatikerin/Informatiker (m/w/d) für Anwendungsentwicklung und Datenintegration mit der vollen tariflich vereinbarten Arbeitszeit (zzt. 38,50 Std./Woche) zu besetzen. Die Stelle ist projektbezogen zunächst befristet bis zum 31.12.2023, mit der Option einer Verlängerung.

Ihre Aufgaben

Ihre zukünftige Aufgabe wird die Leitung, Konzeption, Pflege und Weiterentwicklung der IT der RWTH cBMB Biobank sein. Diese beinhaltet folgende Tätigkeiten:

  • Entwicklung, Konzeption und Architektur verschiedener Software-Lösungen und innovativer IT-Projekte im Gesundheitsumfeld
  • Datenbankentwicklung, -migration und -integration zur Weiterentwicklung des Data Warehouse
  • Technische Betreuung produktiver Anwendungen für Labor und Verwaltung
  • Anforderungsanalyse in direkter Kommunikation mit beteiligten Fachbereichen, Forschern und Klinikern
